How to Build a Fitness Routine, Written by a Man Who Has Mostly Not Built One
Building a regular fitness routine is easy to explain and much harder to live. I know because I’ve lost weight, gained it back, started over and learned that the real challenge is not finding a plan that works. It’s finding a life you can actually maintain. Continue reading

Quick Thought – Tuesday, April 28, 2026: All Doesn’t Mean Some
Psalm 34 calls us to bless the Lord at all times, and James reminds us to count trials as joy. Neither passage ignores hardship — both teach us that faith grows when praise survives difficult days. Continue reading

The Only Exercise I’ve Ever Truly Trusted
Most exercise feels like voluntary suffering dressed up as self-improvement. If it hurts, leaves you sore, and makes stairs feel like punishment, there ought to be a reward at the end. Fortunately, sometimes there is. Continue reading

WordPress Asked Again… So Here’s My Exercise Answer, Repeated for Their Convenience
WordPress asked a question today they already asked back in October. I don’t like to repeat myself — unless I have to — but if they’re going to recycle prompts, I might as well recycle my truths, including my love of bourbon curls. Continue reading

The Exercise That Doesn’t Feel Like Exercise
I’ve never loved exercise for its own sake. I like it best when I don’t notice I’m doing it — when I’m refereeing football, chasing a play down the sideline, or just living life in motion. The trick, I think, is finding ways to move that feel like joy instead of obligation… even if my favorite “workout” still involves bourbon curls. Continue reading

Doing More of What Matters
When I stop and ask myself what I could do more of, a handful of things jump to the front of my mind. First, exercise. I need to be in better health, and moving my body consistently is a big … Continue reading

Walking? Working on It.
How often do I walk or run? Short answer: not as often as I should. On a good day I land between 6,000–8,000 steps just living life—teaching, errands, dog duty. Some days I don’t crack 5,000. Fall football season is … Continue reading

More Than Pushups: My 3-Part Strategy for Real Well-Being
Today’s question is pretty broad, but it’s worth considering: How do I take care of my health and well-being. It’s more than a fair question—and a big one—because “well-being” covers a lot more than just pushups and salads. (And if … Continue reading

Read Psalm 34 James 1:2-16 I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul makes its boast in the Lord let the humble hear and be glad. Oh, magnify the Lord … Continue reading
