Didn’t we just do this?
WordPress must have a sticky note stuck to its shoe, because today’s prompt is almost identical to the one from October 26. I don’t like to repeat myself (unless I’ve forgotten what I said… which is also on brand these days), but if they’re going to recycle questions, I can recycle an answer — with upgrades.
The first truth remains: I am absolutely not a big fan of exercise. I know it’s good for me. I know future-me would send present-me a fruit basket for doing more of it. But most traditional workouts feel like the grown-up version of a kid pushing his vegetables around the plate and hoping no one notices.
What I do enjoy is movement that doesn’t feel like movement.
Refereeing? That’s running, bending, backpedaling, tossing flags, using my arms, using my legs, and occasionally using my diplomatic skills with coaches. It’s cardio disguised as a Friday night.
And of course, there’s my signature training program:
bourbon curls — the artful lifting of Glencairns, two ounces at a time.
Do they build muscle?
Nope.
Do they build happiness?
Absolutely.
But joking aside, I know I need to move more. Not because I want to be a gym guy — that ship has sailed and waved from the horizon — but because I want to be here for the people who love me. Maybe the point isn’t to “love exercise” at all. Maybe the real goal is to love movement.
Walking the dogs. Tossing a football. Being under the lights on Friday nights.
Dancing with Daryl under the stars — still the best full-body workout out there.
If it makes me feel alive instead of obligated, that’s the kind of “exercise” I’m willing to repeat… even if WordPress can’t remember they asked the question the first time.
