I’ve never been much in awe of the famous or infamous. There are people who I admire, such as Steve Lukather, who is the longtime lead guitarist of my favorite group, Toto. And I enjoy watching “Blue Bloods” in part because I’m a big fan of Tom Selleck. But in spite of my affinity of celebrities such as these, they’re not even close to my favorite people.
My favorites are, have been and always will be my family, starting with my wife, Daryl. Our marriage has been a wonderful adventure, and I can’t imagine a life without her in it. For the past 26 years, I’ve also been the proud father of a beautiful daughter, Lizzi, who has also become one of my very best friends. She has now given me a precious grandson, and I cherish each moment I get to spend with him. And then there’s my best friend, Scott, who has been more like a brother than a friend since we first met in 1990.
That’s not even mentioning my brother and three sisters, as well as my wife’s brother and three sisters. Or my wife’s three children. Or my father- and mother-in-law. Or my cousins. Or my nieces and nephews. Family is part of the foundation of any meaningful existence, and I’ve been blessed to have such an incredible family who has enriched my life just because they’re in it. And the greatest thing about having them as my favorite people. “Current” has nothing to do with them being at the top of my list, because they’ll still be my favorites tomorrow and the day after that, and the 10,000 days after tha.
