šŸŽ‰ The Ultimate Earthly Dinner Party: A Gathering of Legends

We’ve all seen the question float around social media:
ā€œIf you could have dinner with anyone, living or dead, who would it be?ā€

It’s the kind of question that gets you dreaming. The first time I considered it, my thoughts immediately went spiritual—heavenly, even. I imagined a reunion with beloved family, long-gone mentors, and faith leaders who’ve shaped my soul from afar.

But then I thought, what if we kept this a little closer to Earth?
What if we filled the room with the people who’ve inspired, entertained, and challenged me throughout my life—not just in faith, but in culture, creativity, and character?

What follows is the ultimate earthly dinner party—my dream guest list. And yes, it would be legendary.

šŸ›ļø The Head Table: Politics and Prose

At the place of honor sits my favorite President: Ronald Reagan. I’d love to hear his thoughts on leadership, conviction, and the power of optimism—unfiltered, in person.

Flanking him are two giants of American literature: Mark Twain and Ernest Hemingway. Can you imagine the stories? Twain with his wit, Hemingway with his grit. (I did consider Edgar Allan Poe—he’s my favorite American author—but let’s be honest, the man might drink all of the liquor and kill the vibe.)

šŸŸļø The All-Pro Athlete’s Corner

This table would buzz with adrenaline and memory.

You’d see Mike Schmidt, the Phillies legend and my all-time favorite baseball player. And over at the Gator section (yes, there’s a whole section), we’d seat all three University of Florida Heisman winners: Steve Spurrier, Danny Wuerffel, and Tim Tebow.

Topping it off is the NFL’s all-time leading rusher—and fellow Gator—Emmitt Smith. The stories of grit, glory, and game-day pressure? Unforgettable.

šŸŽ¬ The Golden Age of Hollywood

This one’s all about class, charisma, and star power.

At one end of the table, John Wayne, Jimmy Stewart, and Cary Grant hold court—pillars of old-school Hollywood strength and charm.

Balancing the table: the elegance and intelligence of Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly, along with the unmatched chemistry of Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn.

It wouldn’t just be glamorous. It would be magical.

🄃 A Bourbon Bar Worthy of Legends

You can’t host a proper evening like this without the perfect drink in hand. And for me, that drink is bourbon.

At the center of the ballroom, just off the dance floor, we’d have a bespoke bourbon bar—rich wood, soft lighting, and shelves lined with American greatness: Blanton’s, Elijah Craig Barrel Proof, Weller Antique 107, Russell’s Reserve, Old Forester 1920, and a few rare bottles that come out only for company like this.

There’s something deeply American about bourbon. It’s bold, complex, a little sweet, and it only gets better with time—kind of like this guest list. I imagine Twain with a pour in hand, swapping jabs with Hemingway. Maybe even Reagan raising a glass for a quiet toast.

šŸŽ¶ The Soundtrack for the Ages

What’s a party without music? This one comes with its own once-in-a-lifetime concert lineup.

  • Opening Act: Benny Goodman – His big band brilliance would set the tone: classy, toe-tapping, timeless.
  • Main Event: Toto – My all-time favorite band. Criminally underrated, wildly talented, and tight as ever. This would be their moment to shine.
  • Special Guests: The Beatles – After all, it was them who inspired Toto’s Steve Lukather to pick up a guitar. The full-circle moment would be electric.
  • Grand Finale: Billy Joel – The Piano Man himself to close the night. And yes, every ā€œUptown Girlā€ is welcome.

šŸ•Æļø Setting the Scene

A guest list this legendary deserves an unforgettable setting. I’m picturing a grand ballroom—maybe at The Plaza in New York or The Breakers in Palm Beach. A place with history in its bones and chandeliers that have seen it all.

The menu? A multi-course celebration of flavor and comfort. Elegant, but not fussy. Think filet mignon with a perfectly paired red—or better yet, a neat pour of something from that bourbon bar. Followed by something chocolatey and absolutely ridiculous.

✨ The Real Magic

But food and venue aside, the real magic is in the interactions.

  • Ronald Reagan and John Wayne swapping stories of the American West.
  • The Beatles and Toto talking songwriting and soundchecks.
  • Hemingway and Cary Grant trading tales of old Europe.
  • Spurrier giving (unsolicited, no doubt) play-calling advice to Tebow.
  • And somewhere near the bar, Billy Joel playing just a little longer than he promised.

It wouldn’t just be a party. It would be a living, breathing celebration of creativity, courage, and character—the people whose work has made my life richer.

šŸ’¬ What About You?

So now I’ll ask you the same question:
If you could gather your ultimate earthly dinner party, who’s at your table?

Drop your list in the comments—I’d love to see who inspires you. Extra credit if you tell me what you’d be pouring.

I would be sharing a 15-year Pappy with John Elway and Pete Maravich, although he’d likely be drinking iced tea. Then I’d pick Brooks Robinson’s (my favorite baseball player) and George Brett’s brains for playing the hot corner. John Wayne, Calvin Coolidge, and Teddy Roosevelt, would be lively discussions AND then to finish the conversations with Sir Arghur Conan Doyle, JRR Tolkien. Last but not least, I would sit at the feet of the one’s I look up most to in this world…I would want to ask the deepest questions to John Calvin, John Locke, Thomas, “Stonewall,” Jackson and reconnect with Dr. RC Sproul.

    • You’d talk to Robinson and Brett, but not Schmidt – who clubbed 548 home runs AND won 10 Golden Gloves? (Brett only had one.) I’m with you on the Pappy, but if you want to talk about the hot corner, you have to have Schmidt there.
