Picking Every Bowl: Pinstripe Bowl, Maryland vs. Virginia Tech

New Era Pinstripe Bowl
December 29
Maryland (6-6) vs. Virginia Tech (6-6), Yankee Stadium, New York City, 2:15 p.m., ESPN
Maryland -4 – O/U 55

Years ago, teams like Maryland and Virginia Tech wouldn’t have dreamed of playing in a bowl game. Both of these teams feasted primarily on lesser teams that now have losing records and are watching others play on TV. The question is, which of the two are the most-lesser in this game and will be the one that the other feasts on to finish with a winning record? On the one side, there’s Maryland — a team with a good bit of offense and almost no defense. On the other side, there’s Virginia Tech — a team with an OK defense and not much offense. Tipping the balance of the scale might be Virginia Tech’s bevvy of opt-out players. Maryland is showing up to this game intact and should be able to move the ball with some effectiveness against a Hokie defense that is a bit handcuffed.
Prediction: Maryland 28-17
Prediction: Maryland 54-10

Record:
Bowl season: SU – 14-8; ATS – 11-11-0; O/U – 10-12-0
Overall: SU – 606-189; ATS – 378-331-6; O/U – 341-362-12
