Christian Music Top 40, 8.1.21: Surprise at No. 1 — It’s CAIN’s “Yes He Can”

For the past six weeks, tobyMac dominated the No. 1 spot on the Christian chart with “Help Is On the Way (Maybe Midnight),” but we predicted there would be a new No. 1 this week. And we were right … sort of. We believed that Lauren Daigle’s “Hold On to Me” was showing the strength it needed to take over the top spot, but it surprisingly faded during the week, allowing CAIN’s “Yes He Can” to jump from No. 4 to No. 1. The result is a remade Top 5, with “Yes He Can” at No. 1, “Help Is On the Way (Maybe Midnight)” at No. 2, Rhett Walker’s “Gospel Song” at No. 3, “Hold On to Me” at No. 4 and Anne Wilson’s “My Jesus” at No. 5.

“Child of Love” by We the Kingdom exited the Top 5 for the first time since June 13. Zach Williams, who last week fell out of the Top 5 with “Less Like Me,” this week fell out of the Top 20 for the first time since February 13. “Amen” by For KING and Country also dropped out of the Top 20, where it had been since February 20.

There were two notable exits from the Top 40. Phil Wickham’s “Battle Belongs” — the biggest Christian hit so far this year — dropped out after 28 weeks, including eight weeks at No. 1. And Ryan Stevenson’s “When We Fall Apart” left after 21 weeks on the chart, having peaked at No. 13.
