Country Music Top 40, 7.29.21: Country carousel, Part 2 — ‘Single Saturday Night’ reclaims top spot

For the third straight week the American country chart switched its No. 1 song, but this time the resident was a familiar face. Cole Swindell’s “Single Saturday Night” took over the No. 1 spot, trading places with Chris Young and “Famous Friends,” which slipped to No. 2. Both had been hanging out in the Top 5 for weeks, stalking Luke Combs’s “Forever After All,” which is now barely hanging within the Top 10. The remainder of the Top 5 all shifted up to their new spots: Chase Rice and “Drinkin’ Beer. Talkin’ God. Amen.” (No. 3); Dan+Shay and “Glad You Exist” (No. 4); and Luke Bryan and “Waves” (No 5).

The only two exits from the chart were notable, as both had been in the Top 40 for 29 weeks: Dierks Bentley’s “Gone” and Jordan Davis’s “Almost Maybes.”

  • “Almost Maybes” by Jordan Davis (29 weeks on the chart, peak of No. 7, last week No. 26)
