Daryl and I were just talking about this today.
Before this month, I probably would have said my Honda CR-V Hybrid. I’ve loved this SUV and haven’t had any trouble with it. It’s genuinely been a privilege to drive.
Of course, now that I’ve said that out loud, I fully expect it to break down sometime this week. Cars seem to know three things: when we say good things about them, when we have extra money and when the warranty expires. So please keep my goodwill toward my car under wraps. I don’t want it getting the idea that now would be the perfect time to blow some major component that isn’t covered.
But last weekend, Daryl and I were almost gifted a Sleep Number bed.
One of her oldest friends and her husband are drastically simplifying their lives, and they had to liquidate all of their furniture, including their bed. They practically gave it to us, asking only a few hundred dollars. We also had to pay to have it moved and to dispose of our old bed, but for less than $1,000, we ended up with a three-year-old Sleep Number bed worth infinitely more than that.
And after only one week, our sleep has improved dramatically.
I almost look forward to going to bed now because the mattress is so comfortable. We can raise the head and feet, turn on lights that give us a pathway to the bathroom in the dark and individually set our sides of the bed to our preferred firmness. It even gives us reports about how well we’re sleeping.
Those reports are probably slightly skewed by the fact that our pit bull sleeps with us. I’m reasonably sure the bed can’t tell the difference between one of us tossing and turning and Princess rearranging herself for the 14th time.
And it’s king size, so for the first time, we have more than enough room for all three of us. Our bedroom is now a little size-compromised, but we’re figuring that out. At this point, the bed owns most of the room, and Daryl and I are just grateful it allows us to sleep there.
Dollar for dollar, this is already the coolest purchase we’ve ever made.
