The older we get, the more we notice how much life changes. It’s certainly like that at this time of year. When we were children, we’d clamor for the Sears Wish Book to point out the toys and games we wanted for Christmas, and we’d write our letters to Santa in hopes that our stockings would be full on Christmas Day. Now, my wife and I ask each other if there’s anything we’d like for Christmas, and we order it in full view of each other from our Amazon wish lists. Our needs are so few that we end up getting simple things like a pair of shoes or things we need for work. I do wish the days of the Wish Book, though. That was a magical time.
What we do for fun is similarly less involved than it once was. A fun time might be a night at the movie theatre or a walk on the beach. Part of that is probably due to our society’s constant push of entertainment. “Fun” things are always available on our phones, computers, tablets or on TV, so what used to be a rarity is now more common. The bar for what we consider “fun” is pretty high these days, and I can’t really recall something extra special we’ve done for fun in the last few months. We did go to see “Wicked” and that was a fun time. Honestly, we probably should put more time into what we do for fun in our spare time.
Now, if only we had some spare time…
