They’re just things

What would you do if you lost all your possessions?

This is an easy question to answer. Most important things in my life aren’t things. Anything I can buy with money can be replaced, but the people in my life can never be replaced. I even value the relationship I have with my dog over any of my possessions.

In order, my priorities are God, my wife, my family, my friends, my students, my dog – and then everything else. People come first, and those relationships to me are priceless. You can take away anything material and I can get it back in some way, even if that particular item is irreplaceable. But you can never take away the Lord, nor can you take away the love I share with my wife, my daughter or anyone else.

So, again, if I lost all my possessions? I’d probably grieve the loss for a day or two and then I’d come to my senses, say my prayers, tighten my belt and start the long road back to recovery.
