The Sunday Pour: The Sweet Spot
Love isn’t found in the roses or the music. It’s found in the middle place — where iron sharpens iron and honey softens the edges. Continue reading

We’re All Lawbreakers (Even the Good Ones)
Breaking the law isn’t as dramatic as we like to imagine. Sometimes it’s not a courtroom or handcuffs — it’s 56 in a 55, a forgotten seatbelt, or a song downloaded back in the Limewire days. When we remember how easily we’ve stepped over the line ourselves, it becomes harder to stand in judgment of others. Maybe the point isn’t perfection — maybe it’s humility. Continue reading

A Life Dedicated to Words and Faith
When I look back over my life, two threads keep reappearing — words and faith. From newsrooms to classrooms, from writing stories to trying to live one faithfully, those two commitments have shaped who I am and who I’m still becoming. Continue reading

Looking Back at Their Lives — And Measuring My Own
When my parents were my age, they were leading ministries, running newspapers, writing music, and shaping lives. I’m not walking the same paths — but I’m realizing how much of who I am comes directly from who they were. Continue reading

The Bourbon Cheapskate, Vol. 28: An Accidental Blind Win
A blind tasting, three familiar 100-proof bottles, and one surprise outcome. When Kentucky Beau went head-to-head with Heaven Hill and Henry McKenna, the cheapest bottle on the bar turned out to be the one that felt just right. Continue reading
If I Could Change One Law, I’d Start With Bad Blog Posts
If I had the power to change one law, I’d love to start with the tax code—but since that’s unlikely, I’ll settle for something more achievable: ending the endless stream of blog posts about “stupid laws” that aren’t actually laws at all. Facts matter, even when we’re trying to be funny. Continue reading
