If I had to pick one thing that’s been with me the longest, it would be writing. I’ve been doing it since I was a kid — on notebook paper, in school assignments, on an old typewriter, and now on a keyboard. Writing has always been how I process the world. It’s how I remember the moments that matter and make sense of the ones that don’t. Whether it’s a blog post, a story idea, or just a few lines that never go anywhere, writing gives me peace.
Music runs a close second. I don’t just listen to it — I sing it. Sometimes it’s in the car, sometimes it’s in church, and sometimes it’s just me at home letting a song carry the mood of the day. Music finds its way into my life the same way writing does — it connects emotion to expression.
And then there’s bourbon. That one’s newer, but it’s quickly become more than a hobby. It’s a craft, a conversation, and a connection — to history, to craftsmanship, and to people who appreciate both. I love the quiet ritual of pouring a glass, taking in the aroma, and tasting the story behind it.
But when it comes down to it, writing is still my truest pastime. It’s the thing I’ve carried the farthest, and the one that keeps carrying me.
