…from the end of the earth I call to you
when my heart is faint.
Lead me to the rock
that is higher than I
Psalm 61:2
Reflect
No matter where you’re standing right now, there is some place that is higher and stronger. Even if you were to climb to the top of Mount Everest – the highest point in the world – there would still be a place even higher.
God is always greater and higher than any place we can aspire to. We can’t climb higher than God. We can’t make ourselves stronger than God. People have tried since the beginning of time and failed. In fact, the very first sin in the Garden of Eden was an attempt to outdo God – and that clearly didn’t turn out well. And the builders of the Tower of Babel quickly found out that God won’t be outdone. As soon as they had attempted to build a structure to climb higher than God, He reminded them that their efforts would never be successful.
The good news is that we frequently need God to be that big and strong. Life throws us curves on an almost daily basis. And the Lord is the “rock that is higher than I.” He is our “strong tower,” and His wings are our refuge. Today, if you get thrown a curve that looks too big to handle, look to the rock and the strong tower to find your refuge. God is ready, willing and able to shelter you.
