Anyone Have a Plane and a Parachute?
I don’t have much patience for irrational fear—except for the one I still carry myself. A fear of heights that makes no sense, lingers anyway, and occasionally challenges me to step closer to the edge… on purpose. Continue reading

Quick Thought – Saturday, January 31, 2026: Living in a Broken World
Read John 9:1-17 And his disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” John 9:2 Reflect “This is all his own fault.” “This is what happens to people like that.” “If he’d … Continue reading

What I Try Not to Complain About (And Why It Matters)
I try my best not to complain—not because nothing bothers me, but because complaining rarely fixes anything. Scripture reminds us that grumbling reshapes our hearts in ways we don’t always notice, and I’m still learning to be faithful with what I’ve been given. Continue reading

Quick Thought – Friday, January 30, 2026: Don’t Fear Evil
Cheaters may appear to thrive, but their success is temporary. Psalm 49 reminds us that wealth, schemes, and deception cannot save—only God holds the final word. When evil surrounds us, fear is not our calling; trust is. Continue reading

The Bourbon Cheapskate, Vol. 26: Turning a $22 Bottle Into a Top-Shelf Pour
I didn’t distill this whiskey. I just gave a solid $22 bottle three weeks in a finishing cask — and it jumped into the top 30 on my shelf. Continue reading
I Didn’t Wear Pads — I Wore a Headdress… and Later, a Kilt
My first team wasn’t the marching band—but it was the only team I had in high school. We practiced in the heat, competed nationally, and performed under stadium lights right next to football games. We also wore some truly unforgettable uniforms, including a homemade Indian headdress (mine resembled a deceased chicken) and, later, full Scottish regalia—yes, including a kilt. Sports come in many forms. Some just require a lot more explaining. Continue reading
Quick Thought – Thursday, January 29, 2026: God Is Worthy of Our Praise
Read Psalm 47 Clap your hands, all peoples! Shout to God with loud songs of joy! Job 32:4 Reflect When I was a teenager, I one day discovered that there were people who actually spent all of their time making … Continue reading

If I Won the Lottery, I’d Buy Time—Not Things
Winning the lottery wouldn’t turn my life upside down. It would quiet the background noise—freeing time for family, travel, writing, and the kind of giving that doesn’t need recognition. Less about more, and more about meaning. Continue reading

Quick Thought – Wednesday, January 28, 2026: What Good Dads Do
Jesus reminds us that even earthly fathers know how to give good gifts. How much more can we trust a Heavenly Father who never substitutes harm for good when His children ask? Continue reading
