Mom was a fountain of wisdom

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

My mother was a source of so much wisdom, but one of the best pieces of advice she ever gave me was about limiting what I say. She told me that when I was in a conversation that I should put some thought into wuhat I was going to say before I said it. She said that whenever someone was discussing a topic, I should only talk about that topic and that I should weigh my words carefully and look for an opportunity to share my thoughts. But, she said, if that topic changed, I should not later change the subject just so I could share what I was thinking about previously. It would be better to let it go and think about something else to say. Those words have stayed with me for decades and have helped me watch carefully what I say. After all, the Bible says our words can bring life or death, so we should measure them carefully.
