Quick Thought – Monday, July 5, 2021: Driving Away Anger

Read

Romans 6:1-14

For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his.
R0mans 6:5

Reflect

I hate to admit it, but I’m not always perfect when I drive. Not only do I sometimes make a mistake here and there, but I also sometimes get a tad frustrated with other people when they make mistakes. It’s hard to believe, I know. My daughter picked up on these moments of anger, and she has reminded me at times about how I’ve responded to drivers in the past. It’s not something I’ve been very (or at all) proud of.

This brings to mind a story of a little boy who was driving with his mother. He asked, “Mommy, why do the idiots only come out when Daddy drives?” The mother, predictably, was speechless. One day, that little boy may well understand that his father’s anger says much more about the man than it does about how well the other drivers are doing on the road.

While Christ’s resurrection is God’s answer to death, it is also the answer to the dangerous sin of anger found in that father, as well as in the poor quality of some drivers on the road. His victory over sin is the ultimate answer to all of our shortcomings and to all of the evil in every situation – even the ultimate evil of death.

Every child’s question and every adult’s failure can only be understood at the foot of the cross. Our ultimate answer to all of the questions of life is the realization of an empty tomb and a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Why search any longer for life’s answers to your questions when all of them are resolved in the truth of Jesus?

At the foot of the cross, mothers are understood, fathers are forgiven, children have their questions answered and even the faults of other drivers are accepted. Jesus’ resurrection has unparalleled, life-changing implications every day. All you need to do is accept His sacrifice, love Him and seek His will in your life.
