Quick Thought – Tuesday, March 3, 2026: Not a Matter of When

Read Matthew 20:1-16 Don’t I have the right to do what I want with my own money? Or are you envious because I am generous?’ Matthew 20:15 Reflect Imagine this scenario. Bob and Tim both live their lives pretty much … Continue reading

The Phase That Slipped Away

Some goodbyes don’t come with speeches or slammed doors. They arrive quietly — in miles, in distance, in the realization that fatherhood has shifted from daily presence to chosen connection. Gratitude doesn’t erase the grief of what changed, but it steadies it. Continue reading

Hydration Depends on the Mood (and the Meeting)

What’s my favorite drink? That depends. If I’m melting in Florida heat, it’s Glacier Cherry (which is somehow white). If I’m teaching, it’s a giganto Wawa concoction. If I’m reflective at my desk… well, that answer comes in amber. Context matters—even in a cup. Continue reading

Sixty Miles in Orange and Blue Shoes

In 2006, as my mother battled breast cancer, I laced up a pair of orange and blue Mizunos and walked sixty miles over three days. They didn’t cure anything, but they carried me through one of the hardest seasons of my life — step by step, mile by mile. Continue reading

The Sunday Pour: The Sweet Spot

Love isn’t found in the roses or the music. It’s found in the middle place — where iron sharpens iron and honey softens the edges. Continue reading

Looking Back at Their Lives — And Measuring My Own

When my parents were my age, they were leading ministries, running newspapers, writing music, and shaping lives. I’m not walking the same paths — but I’m realizing how much of who I am comes directly from who they were. Continue reading

Home Isn’t the House

I once lived in a house that bounced, sagged, sank into the earth, and secretly hosted a thriving rodent community. And somehow, I still loved it. These days, I live somewhere far more stable—but the real difference is who I share it with. Turns out, home isn’t about perfect construction. It’s about a solid foundation where it matters most. Continue reading

The Days That Last

Perfect days don’t follow a script. They’re made from moments—some chaotic, some beautiful—that linger long after the day itself is over. These are the days I’ll always carry with me. Continue reading

Quick Thought – Wednesday, January 28, 2026: What Good Dads Do

Jesus reminds us that even earthly fathers know how to give good gifts. How much more can we trust a Heavenly Father who never substitutes harm for good when His children ask? Continue reading

What’s in a Name? Apparently, an Unfortunate Headline

I was never really in love with my name. Doug is fine—solid, unpretentious, and chosen out of love. My middle name, Blaine, on the other hand, sounds like either a country-club snob or the kid drinking paste in kindergarten. Add in the etymology—dark river plus yellow—and suddenly my full name sounds less like a person and more like a true-crime episode. Continue reading
