“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
— Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)
That’s a big question—and honestly, it feels different now than it did when I was younger. The future doesn’t feel so far off or abstract anymore. I’ve lived a good bit of life, with some real highs and some hard losses. These days, I’m not chasing big dreams or grand ambitions. What excites me now is getting to enjoy and grow deeper into the blessings already around me.
Hands down, the biggest thing I’m looking forward to is watching my grandson grow up. He’s almost two now, and he’s completely changed our world. Seeing my daughter—who’s always been the joy of my life—become a mom has been beautiful. I can’t wait for every milestone: his first words, his quirky little games, the stories we’ll share. Being a grandparent is this new chapter I’m stepping into with my whole heart.
I’m also so thankful for the everyday life I get to share with my wife, Daryl. We found each other again in 2015, and since then, building our life together has been such a gift. The future I picture for us is full of slow evenings, road trips, laughter, and simply being there for one another. It’s a kind of peace and partnership I thank God for all the time.
And speaking of God—my faith is the foundation for all of it. My relationship with Jesus shapes how I see everything else: my family, my friendships, even my work. I want to keep growing into who He’s called me to be. That’s the real hope that grounds all the rest.
I also get excited about teaching. Working with my 8th and 9th graders keeps me sharp and reminds me what’s ahead for the world. Helping them find their voices and figure out how to think—that’s still one of the best parts of what I do.
So what am I most excited about for the future? It’s not one big thing. It’s this whole mix of roles I love—being a husband, a dad, a granddad, a teacher, a follower of Christ. It’s watching the seeds I’ve planted keep growing, and knowing the best moments might still be ahead.
