Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But even the hairs of your head are all numbered.
Matthew 10:29-30
Reflect
When my little sister was a teenager someone stole her wallet while she was in the youth group’s meeting one Sunday evening. I know, you’re shocked. Someone did something inherently evil and dishonest at church. Clearly, not everyone who goes to church is redeemed, but that’s not a lesson that’s easy to teach to a distraught young lady who is panicked about losing something so personal. There wasn’t much money in the wallet, but she had pictures and other personal items that would have been difficult, if not impossible, to replace.
My stepfather, who was the priest at that church, happened to be there when she discovered the theft, and he did his best to comfort her in the aftermath. Afterward, he spent a few minutes in prayer and asked the Lord to help him find the wallet. After a prolonged silence, he says that he clearly heard the Lord say, “It’s in the trash can by the front door.”
Without stopping to look anywhere else, he went to the trash can, lifted the lid and found the wallet inside. The money was gone, but everything else was intact.
Isn’t it amazing how the Lord can meet our needs – even the ones that the world might see as meaningless or insignificant. In the course of human history, one girl’s wallet doesn’t amount to much. But to that girl, it’s everything in that one moment.
We are so blessed to serve a Savior who is all about the “lost and found.” He is the only one who can deal with things that are truly lost – from a wallet to a person. And He is the only one who can help us continually find our way. Are we too enlightened to ask for help with the small things of life? And are our problems too large for the Lord of life, Jesus, to handle?
Today, pray that the Lord will meet your needs, small and large. Don’t forget He has the power to handle everything – from parking spaces to remote controls to relationships. Trust Him enough to make Him the master of your daily concerns.
