Daily question: What’s the most delicious thing you’ve ever eaten?
It’s been long time, but I still think the best meal I’ve ever eaten was on New Year’s Eve 1996. Oddly, I remember the date mainly because Army was playing Auburn in the Independence Bowl, and though I’m not a big fan of either team, that memory has stuck with me. That’s a lot of years ago – maybe too many since I had something that delicious. But the meal was so memorable that I’ve never forgotten it. My then-wife and I went to a local restaurant in Marietta, Ga. – La Strada – and the server suggested a baked Chilean sea bass stuffed with goat cheese. I think it might have had a side of angel hair pasta and some asparagus, but I remember thinking, “This is the best meal I’ve ever tasted.” And I don’t think I’ve had that thought since then. These days, when I go out to a fine restaurant, I usually snap a shot of the entree to send to my daughter. But back then, I don’t think I even had a cell phone, let alone one that had a camera. I think the meal probably looked something like this photo. But the flavor was divine and seared the evening into my memory.
