I can trace my faith journey to a specific date – June 17, 1984. I was at a youth event at Christian Retreat in Bradenton, Fla., when I accepted Christ. That moment wasn’t just a fleeting emotional experience; it was a profound shift that set the course for the rest of my life. Even now, I can point to that day as the moment everything truly changed. My daily goal since then has been simple (even though there were times I drifted) – to strive to be more like Jesus each day.
Whenever I see questions like this on WordPress, I immediately think that the person coming up with the questions doesn’t really understand what they’re asking. It’s not really spirituality – it’s faith. It doesn’t matter what you believe, whatever it is, you’re placing your faith in something. And for me, that’s Jesus Christ. That’s not just a part of who I am; it’s the very foundation that my entire life is built upon. It’s the lens through which I see the world, it’s the motivation for my choices, and it’s the source of my strength.
This faith has never been a private, compartmentalized thing. It has actively shaped my path, especially in my career. I spent years working for faith-based organizations, including being a parish administrator at a church, where I also had the privilege of ministering to youth and children. These weren’t just jobs; they were callings, opportunities to integrate my work with my deepest convictions.
My faith is also woven into the most personal parts of my life. When I fell in love with my wife, Daryl, and we decided to get married in 2015, we knew our commitment was about more than just the two of us. Each step of our life has depended on us seeking the Lord’s will for where He wants us to be, including where we go to church today.
In short, it’s essential for me – and for my family – to build our life on the rock-solid foundation of Jesus Christ.
