I know this question is aiming at a “top line” sort of answer, so I’ll throw that one out first – the IRS and our current tax code. I’d get rid of both and start from scratch. The whole thing has gotten so big and oppressive that it has our people in fear of putting a single toe across the line. Plus, the confiscation of wealth in this country has instigated class warfare that is, at times, approaching the French Revolution. We need a healthier and more equitable way of funding our country.
Now, knowing that that’s probably never going to happen, I’d rather focus on passing a law against making blog posts about stupid laws. Initially, I wanted to look at stupid laws that needed to be erased, but I began to realize that all of the blog posts about such laws were insane, outdated or just plain deceptive. Among them, they claimed that in Florida it was illegal to:
- Fish while driving.
- Break more than three dishes a day.
- Own an ostrich.
- Sing while wearing a swimsuit.
- Parachute on Sunday (if you’re an unmarried woman).
- Wear a strapless gown (as long as you’re a man).
- Tie an alligator (or an elephant) to a parking meter.
- Shower naked.
- Sell oranges without a license.
- Whistle at night.
There are plenty of true things for us bloggers to write about, and promoting such falsehood just wastes our time and, more importantly, the time of the people who read and believe this crap. I’m not an advocate for anything that abridges the First Amendment, but I also think people need to take responsibility for the things they print that are patently untrue. I’d hate to think that anyone who loves singing at the beach would fear for their freedom, especially if they happen to have an alligator on a leash. Fellow bloggers – take it easy on your readers and make sure you get your facts straight.
